On a winters day leading up to Christmas 2022, Kerry natives Sally-Ann Leahy and Thomas Mulvihill said their “I dos” at St. John’s Church in Causeway and together, with their wedding guests celebrated their nuptials at the Listowel Arms Hotel in Co. Kerry.

The Background

The hottest new bar in Causeway was after opening in town. The whole place was going to be there, but Sally-Ann had one issue, her leaving cert. Her father agreed to let her go to the opening of the Keg if she studied the next day. Just as well she did, it was there she met her future husband, Thomas. Their relationship stood the test of time and after 10 years of growing together, Thomas whisked his then girlfriend off to London for the weekend in December 2019. In the famous Kensington Gardens, he went down on one knee and asked that beautiful girl he first laid eyes on in the Keg a decade ago, to become his forever. There happened to be a wedding photographer passing by at the same time and they took some pictures of their engagement (for free!). Thomas had afternoon Tea booked in the Ritz Hotel the following day, so it was a trip to remember.

The Wedding

During their time together they’ve been joined by their little daughter Molly Mai, who made their day even more special. Some of their favourite memories include seeing each other at the top of the aisle, having a sing song with their friends in their local pub in Causeway, getting a fabulous picture with their bridal party at Meenoghane Pier and waking into their wedding reception at the Listowel Arms.  And, due to how close their wedding was to Christmas, Santa happened to be in Listowel checking out the various roofs on those Kerry houses, so he stopped by to deliver a box of chocolates to each table and take some pictures with their guests at the hotel’s flower wall.

Sally-Ann, a home economics teacher, made and iced her own wedding cake, with fruit, chocolate biscuit sand lemon drizzle. This went down a treat with all their guests.

How was your experience with the Listowel Arms?

“Our hotel was simply incredible to deal with. Patrice and her team were so professional. Anything I suggested to Patrice, she would say yes, we will make it work. She was so obliging, ALL THE TIME! The rooms, the location, the food, the venue, the drinks reception, everything was just simply the best. The dining hall was simply breathtaking. Our theme was black and gold, with eucalyptus and greenery. And the hotel did a fantastic job. Friends and family still speak about the meal - the quality, portion size and service, everything was impeccable from start to finish.”
