5 Key Points to Consider When Ordering a Wedding Cake
We asked Gary from O’ Carrolls Cakes what’s the most common wedding cake related question he gets asked and he said “Couples most often simply want to know what are the key steps they need to follow so they don’t miss anything out along the way.” Below Gary outlines a few details for each of the five key points he thinks his couples should follow when ordering a wedding cake.

1. Style
The style of a wedding cake can often be categorised as Traditional White, Modern, Black, Monochrome, Minimalist, Floral, Textured, Ombre, Artistic. Most people choose a Round Stacked Cake, but other shapes are often available too e.g. Square, Petal, Hexagon
2. Design
Talk to your wedding cake supplier about different designs e.g. Stacked vs Asymetric Tiers or Sculptural Effects. Other designs / themes include Semi Naked, Rustic, Simplistic, Clean Lines, Glamourous, Contemporary Modern, Architectural, Cake Tower, Dessert Table.
3. Size
Some different sizes to think about include Cupcakes and Mini Treat Dessert Tables or Cake Towers, Single Tier, Two Tier, Three Tier, Use of Dummy Tiers to add extra height, or even Double Barrel Cakes.
4. Decoration
Decorative effects will often be guided by the style and design and can include fresh flowers, fresh fruit, Metalics, drip effect, paint splatter effect, pearls, ribbons, bows, macarons, ruffles, edible lace, fondant feathers, themed elements e.g. Seasonal, Christmas.
5. Flavours
Your wedding cake supplier will no doubt have lots of flavours to offer. So, the main things to consider are traditional vs unusual flavours. Or one single flavour vs multiple flavours or if you want to allow for allergies.
